java is a pretty hated language by a bunch of spastics on the internet but honestly, it gets way too much hate. java is a great language imo. i remember reading some blog post that made coding in java akin to "playing stardew valley" and i think it's pretty accurate.

Update after week 1: in training so far, they're having me go through some PL/SQL manuals. I'm starting to see why the company is using Java: no point playing with fire (C++) to achieve some super fast performance for rail traffic schedulers, they'd rather enjoy the safety and portability of Java. It's being used like every normal programming language otherwise so no AbstractFactoryBuilderAdapters and other "corpo Java" stuff. The company is alright, about 50 people and no subcontinentals or transgenders so there's no bad smell or drama. Downside: the coffee machine is poor and I'd rather just bring my own coffee for the morning and then zyn through the rest of the day.

Awesome that the job isn't miserable. Bringing your own coffee is hardly a downside imo - if you can figure out a brew you quite like, if anything it's preferable.
Not sure abt the "no transgenders" bit though? Idgaf about someone's identification as long as they do their job.
