do yg have like clear phases of your life like you can distinctly say this year was amazing and this year sucked
and if so do you feel like your hedonic treadmill is in your control
last few months have been pretty meh and the months before that were amazing and everything but i feel like it all happened mostly by circumstances out of my control
is an attempt to change just treading water? go with the flow? do we embark on adventures or do they come to us

a life well lived should feel like every year is better than the last. or at the very least every year should feel like an inevitable and necessary step towards something greater.
every moment i'm should be striving towards some kind of peak. once i reach that peak, i find that it just gives me a new vantage point to see an even higher peak somewhere else. to reach that higher peak, i'll have to descend first...
this is how i frame the ups and downs of the years of my life. even the "bad" years are worth something because i see it as part of a necessary descent to reach something even greater.

i used to count phases of my life like this by how often i broke a bone (it was every 3 years until the pattern broke) ages 9, 12, 15
i would also tell my mom how i felt the year would go like good or bad before the new year and i cant remember what feelings decided good/bad
lately it feels like i have no idea what im doing and no control over outcomes since i am doing as little as possible every day and then i get upset about it and end up doing nothing the next day again
but at the same time im not too worried as long as i can still work once i find something to be doing since i think i peaked a few years ago and now i need to return
